Registered Nurse (RN) – PCU/IMC Float Pool

Location: Centennial, Colorado (Zone 1 – 60 mile radius around Colorado Springs)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Days
Hours per Day: 12
Hours per Week: 36


Job Overview

  • Float pool role covering multiple PCU/IMC units within a 60-mile radius zone around Colorado Springs, including facilities up to 46 miles away.
  • Units include PCU/IMC with specialties such as General, Cardiac, Neuro, Oncology, Rehab, Renal, Bariatrics, Ortho, Trauma, ED Observation, and more.
  • No home base facility; floating throughout the zone is mandatory.
  • Schedules released 4–6 weeks in advance with two formats:
    • Assigned to a single facility for the week (may float within that facility)
    • Just-In-Time (JIT) assignments given 1–2 hours before shift start
  • Orientation: 1-2 days with a preceptor; clinicians must be in-state for orientation week.

Patient Population & Care

  • Adult to geriatric patients with diagnoses including cardiac, neuro, ortho, oncology, renal, urology post-surgical, general surgery post-appendectomy, gynecology, psych/detox, ENT, general medicine, and stable long-term placements.
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:3-4 depending on acuity.
  • Charge nurse present on each unit; usually does not take patient assignments except when necessary.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of PCU/IMC nursing experience.
  • Preferred experience in neurology and with Epic electronic health records.
  • Must be comfortable titrating and managing cardiac drips, insulin, ativan, and heparin.
  • Required certifications:
    • BLS (AHA)
    • ACLS (AHA)
    • NIHSS
  • Must have a valid RN license for Colorado.

Skills & Responsibilities

  • Manage and titrate drips including dopamine, dobutamine, cardizem, amiodarone, ativan, insulin, and heparin.
  • Ability to float across various acuity levels including ICU (low acuity holds), PCU/Stepdown, and Medical-Surgical Telemetry.
  • Collaborate with nurse aides and respiratory therapists; RT equipment such as vents, CPAP, BiPAP are used on units.
  • Flexible scheduling to fill gaps in permanent staff coverage.
  • Weekend requirement: 6-9 weekend shifts in a 6-week schedule.
  • May be asked to participate in holiday rotation.
  • Call or standby is rare and only for low census situations.
  • Dress code: Any scrub color allowed.

Additional Information

  • Must submit a valid driver’s license.
  • Housing must be arranged to allow floating within the full 60-mile zone.
  • Time off requests must be submitted prior to assignment start.
  • First float assignment communicated by Monday of start week.
