Emergency Department RN

Location

• Prescott Valley, Arizona

Schedule

• 13-week contract
• Evenings
• 12-hour shifts
• 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend: days Saturday/Sunday, nights Friday/Saturday
• No self-scheduling
• Block scheduling allowed, with no more than 4 consecutive shifts
• Must work some major holidays
• 1 on-call shift in a 28-day schedule
• Float between east/west ED only, generally prescheduled

Unit Details

• Emergency Department / ER
• Level 4 trauma
• 24 beds, 4 critical rooms, 1 trauma room
• Separate triage area
• Mixed-in ED holds
• 2 psych/seclusion rooms
• 80-110 patients per day
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:4 for general ED; ICU in ED 1:2 or 1:1 depending on acuity

Required Qualifications

• RN license
• ACLS
• BLS
• PALS or ENPC
• TNCC
• 2 years of ED experience
• Conscious sedation experience
• Critical thinking
• AMI management

Clinical Support / Workflow

• Charge nurse and house supervisor are staffed 24/7
• Charge nurse generally does not take an assignment
• ED techs have IV skills, phlebotomy, splinting, wound care, transport, and help with special procedures
• Paramedics are staffed in the intake area and can give 12 meds and discharge patients
• RT responds for intubation, vent setup, Bi-Pap, Vapotherm, and ABG
• RN may start breathing treatments if urgent
• RN troubleshoots RT equipment and calls RT for problems
• RNs read their own telemetry strips
• X-ray/CT transports its own patients
• Phlebotomy may be done by either phlebotomy staff or RNs depending on the situation

Orientation

• 2 days of hospital orientation
• One 12-hour shift in each ED with a mentor, one at east and one at west

Dress Code

• Navy blue dignity scrubs
