Overview

Role: Stepdown RN
Location: Morgantown, West Virginia
Contract length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour days
Hours per week: 36

Unit

Unit: 8 North East (8NE)
Beds: 24 step-down beds
Patient ratio: 3:1
Patient population: Trauma and general med/surg
Setting: Level 1 trauma center

Required Qualifications

BLS
ACLS
Strong assessment skills
Ability to adapt to a fast-paced work environment
Ability to titrate drips
Basic EKG interpretation

Schedule and Work Expectations

Weekend coverage required, potentially every other weekend depending on staffing
Holiday coverage required on a rotational basis
No call requirement
Floating occurs on a rotational basis with other staff on the unit

Unit Details

All 24 beds are monitored
RN reads strips with basic EKG interpretation; techs read the strips
Common drips include cardizem, labetalol, and amiodarone
No sedative drips in the step-down unit
Respiratory support includes BiPap, CPap, and chronic vents not being weaned
11 rooms have in-ceiling lifts
Orientation is with a clinical preceptor
