Job Opportunity: Patient Placement Nurse

Location: Phoenix, Arizona
Specialty: Bed Placement / Patient Placement
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Key Job Details

  • Role: Full-time Patient Placement Nurse with house supervisor experience preferred
  • Hands-on Patient Care: None (strictly bed placement)
  • Facility Setting: Assignment covers up to 3 hospitals with 500-1000 beds
  • Shift: 12-hour shifts, 3 days per week (6:30 AM - 7:00 PM)
  • Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts in a 4-week period (Fri & Sat nights, Sat & Sun days)
  • Holiday Requirement: Must be available to work holidays if needed (no PTO allowed on holidays)
  • Scheduling: First schedule assigned, subsequent schedules self-scheduled but subject to balancing; no block scheduling guarantee
  • Floating: Not required
  • Dress Code: Scrubs (any color, clean and professional) or casual (clean jeans without rips/tears, clean hoodies without large writing)

Responsibilities

  • Place patients in appropriate hospital units based on bed type and clinical needs
  • Use critical thinking to assess bed requests and communicate with charge nurses or leadership if placement is inappropriate
  • Work across multiple computer screens and applications (TeleTracking, Cerner, Google apps, Zoom)
  • No responsibility for treatment plans, recommendations, or diagnosis
  • No responsibility for arranging patient transfers

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Experience:
    • Recent acute care experience required (2 years preferred)
    • Acceptable if last 1 contract was long-term care, but not if last 2-3 assignments were SNF
    • First-time travelers are welcome
  • Skills:
    • Proficient with TeleTracking and Cerner EMR systems
    • Strong computer skills, including Zoom and Google applications
    • Ability to multitask and provide excellent customer service
    • Knowledge of hospital departments and units (e.g., MedSurg vs Telemetry)
  • Certifications:
    • BLS required
    • Must hold a valid nursing license (RN, LVN, or CNA)
  • Screening:
    • Clinical prescreen and second interview with manager required
    • Dyslexia exam through UNA required within 24-48 hours prior to acceptance (pass/fail with 2 attempts allowed)
    • Relias Dyslexia exam within last 12 months accepted if previously taken

Orientation & Training

  • 1 day general hospital orientation
  • 3-5 days department-specific orientation (may occur on any shift)

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must not have been employed by any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI or Dignity) within the past year, except PRN through outside firms
  • Modules required before assignment start (3-4 hours, unpaid)
  • Return to office (RTO) requests are rarely accommodated
  • Lead and supervisor available 24/7 for support
