Job Opportunity: Health Sciences (Dietitian) - Hawaii, Hilo
Position Details
- Specialty: Health Sciences (Registered Dietitian)
- Location: Hilo, Hawaii
- Employment Type: Contract
- Contract Length: 26 weeks (approximately 6 months)
- Shift: 5 days per week, including weekends
- Shift hours: 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM
- Typical days off: Tuesday and Wednesday
- No guaranteed hours or shift preference
- Work Setting: Food and Nutrition Services Department with floating to multiple hospital units including medical, surgical/pediatric, progressive care, OB, ICU, long-term care, and psychiatric units
- Additional Travel: One day per month providing services at a long-term care facility (travel expenses and time are the responsibility of the traveler/agency)
Licensure & Certifications
- Must have an active Hawaii State License by the start of the assignment
- Registered Dietitian credential by the Commission on Dietetic Registration required
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum 1 year of clinical nutrition experience (higher requirement confirmed)
- Skills required include:
- Nutrition assessment for pediatric to geriatric patients
- Medical Nutrition Therapy for acute care, long-term care, and critical care
- Ability to estimate nutrition needs (caloric, protein, fluid)
- Nutrition support (Parenteral/Enteral Nutrition)
- Nutrition education
- Food service management
- Electronic medical record charting
- Development and updating of nutrition care plans
- Minimum Data Sets knowledge
Job Responsibilities
- Correct menus and make menu changes for kitchen staff
- Serve as a resource for food service management and kitchen staff regarding diets, nutrition support, and patient satisfaction
- Review patient assessment requests
- Interview patients and perform nutrition assessments
- Make nutrition recommendations and follow up with physician consults
- Provide nutrition education
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and/or ICU rounds
- Collaborate with food service and medical staff to optimize patient care
Work Environment & Dress Code
- May be required to work alone occasionally, but not routinely
- Business professional dress code; lab coats optional
Additional Notes
- Must arrive the Thursday before the start date for an employee health appointment on Friday
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
