Job Opportunity: Surgical Assistant

Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Work Schedule & Responsibilities

• Full-time position, Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
• Requires weekday and weekend on-call coverage:

  • One weekday call per week
  • Two weekend days (Saturday or Sunday) in a 6-week period
• Must respond within 30 minutes of call notification
• Position supports a Level 3 trauma center
• Coverage includes assisting with OB C-sections during the day and on call

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year of experience as a First Assist Technician, with recent experience within the last year
• Experience as a Surgical Assistant
• Experience assisting in Obstetrics (OB) for C-sections

Health & Compliance Requirements

• COVID-19 vaccine preferred but not required (medical/religious exemptions accepted)
• MMR: Positive titers within last 15 years or appropriate booster protocol
• Varicella: Positive titers within last 15 years or appropriate booster protocol
• Tdap vaccination within last 10 years (no declinations accepted)
• Hepatitis B: Proof of full series or partial series with signed declination form accepted
• Influenza vaccine required during flu season (October–March); declination requires mask-wearing and completion of specific forms
• 2-Step TB test or IGRA within last 6 months; if positive, clear chest X-ray and current TB questionnaire required
• Fit test for respirators completed within 1 year prior to start and updated annually
• Physical exam within 1 year prior to start confirming ability to work without restrictions

Background & Verification

• Criminal background check within 6 months prior to start, including social security trace, county searches, national sex offender registry
• Ohio fingerprinting and FBI background checks as applicable based on residency duration
• Employment verification for last 5 years through third-party
• Education verification through third-party; international education requires equivalency documentation
• Drug screen within 60 days prior to start (10-panel, no instant screens)
• I-9 verification confirming eligibility to work in the U.S.
• OIG exclusion check and other federal screenings within 6 months prior to start
• Driver’s license or state ID (non-expired photo ID) required

Skills & Competency

• Completion of skills checklist specific to clinical role within 1 year prior to start
• Competency exam with minimum 80% score within 1 year prior to start
• Core competencies including HIPAA, OSHA, Joint Commission topics completed within 1 year prior to start
• Completion of required safety and compliance training modules prior to clearance; annual renewal required

• Badge photo required (headshot, shoulders up, plain background)
• Must be able to respond quickly to trauma calls and OB C-section assistance
• Weekend and weekday call responsibilities are mandatory
