Registered Nurse - Medical/Surgical (Night Shift)

Location: Evansville, Indiana
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit: Post-Surgical Unit (22 beds)
Patient Ratio: 1:4-5


Job Description

  • Provide nursing care on a post-surgical unit.
  • Work night shift (5S Nights).
  • Care for patients recovering from surgery in a 22-bed unit.
  • Maintain patient ratio of approximately 1 nurse to 4-5 patients.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana.
  • Minimum of 1 year of Medical/Surgical nursing experience.
  • Medical/Surgical nursing experience within the last year.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Onboarding and Compliance Requirements

Exams and Competencies (must be completed prior to start and updated every 3 years)

  • Pharmacology Exam (minimum 80% score, max 2 attempts).
  • Medical Surgical Exam (minimum 80% score, max 2 attempts).
  • EKG Exam (minimum 80% score, max 2 attempts).
  • Core Competencies covering HIPAA, Joint Commission, NPSG, OSHA topics (minimum 80% score, max 2 attempts).

Health and Immunizations

  • MMR: Documented proof of two vaccines or positive titer; no declinations accepted.
  • Varicella: Documented proof of two vaccines, immunity, or history; no declinations accepted.
  • Tdap: Valid within 10 years; no declinations accepted.
  • Influenza Vaccine: Required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); exemptions accepted with mask requirement.
  • Hepatitis B: Documentation of vaccination series completion or signed declination.
  • TB Screening: 2-step PPD or IGRA within required timeframes; if positive, negative chest X-ray and annual TB questionnaire.
  • Fit Test: Required for all travelers; preferred before start, can be done onsite.
  • Health Statement: Statement of good health or physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually.

Drug Screening

  • 12 Panel Drug Screen within 30 days prior to start, updated annually.

Background and Verification

  • Criminal background check including Social Security Trace, OIG Search, National Sex Offender Registry.
  • Employment verification for past 7 years.
  • Education verification relevant to clinical work.
  • Professional references: At least two required.

Additional Requirements

  • Driver’s License or State ID (must be current and match address requirements).
  • Onboarding includes completion of education attestation and contract worker onboarding.
  • Badge photo (headshot with white or blue background, no alterations).

Notes

  • Optional unit-specific checklist may be required by unit leadership within one week of start.
  • Some documents and verifications must be updated annually or if there is a break in service longer than 90 days.
  • All exams and competencies have a maximum of two attempts allowed.
