Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Akron, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 18 months recent permanent CVOR (Cardiovascular Operating Room) experience required prior to travel.
  • Open Heart and Vascular experience preferred.
  • Scrub heart experience required.
  • Traveler must work at least every other holiday.
  • One recent reference from a manager, ANM, supervisor, or director in the specialty is required to qualify for submission.
  • ECG rhythm recognition test and SafeMedicate test must be passed during orientation.

Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS (Basic Life Support): Required for all candidates.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): Required except for CVOR, OR, Pediatric OR, Ambulatory Care, and Behavioral Health.
  • CNOR (Certified Nurse Operating Room): Preferred but not required for RNFAs.
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course): Required for ER; preferred but not required for other areas.
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): Required for PICU, Pediatric Stepdown, and Pediatric OR; preferred but not required for PACU.
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program): Required for L&D, OB/GYN, and NICU.
  • National CVOR Certification: Required (NBSTSA or NBSTSACST).
  • Annual completion of orientation safety manual acknowledgment and unit-specific competency exams.
  • Pass/fail ECG and medication testing required onsite during orientation (except for OR RNs and certain legacy candidates).

Licensure & Background Checks

  • Valid state nursing license with primary source verification within 30 days of start.
  • Background check required prior to start, including FCRA compliant 7-year search, education verification, and fingerprinting (FBI and BCI) within 12 months of start, updated annually.
  • Fingerprinting must be completed within 48 hours of signed contract; candidates start allowed with results pending but must complete before extension.
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, including Snellen eye exam (required for new candidates signing 4/11/2025 or later).
  • Fit mask test (N95) within 12 months of start, updated annually.
  • Tdap vaccine every 10 years.
  • Negative TB test (2-step PPD or QGold/TSPOT) or chest X-ray if history of positive TB, updated annually.
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccinations or positive titers with boosters if needed.
  • Hepatitis B vaccination or titer or declination.
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer with booster if needed.
  • Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted).
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (10/31 - 03/31).

Documentation & Onboarding

  • Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried on assignment.
  • Employment application must include at least 3 years prior work history with 2 years clinical practice in acute care in a similar area.
  • Two references required from employment within one year of start, from a manager, ANM, supervisor, charge nurse, or director (co-worker references not accepted).
  • Completion of online training modules prior to start is mandatory; modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome.
  • Photo for badge required (headshot, shoulders up, white background).
  • SafeMedicate prep materials provided for exam preparation during orientation.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates with a gap of less than 40 days between assignments at this system may not need to update physical exam, eye exam, or chest X-ray if within one year.
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.
  • Candidates must be prepared to complete all required testing and certifications prior to or during orientation.

The staff is very friendly and helpful.

Cons

Cleveland Clinic, the main campus, cuts the staff when adding more work. This is very disorganized and harmful to the rest of the staff.
