Registered Nurse (Med/Surg Telemetry) - Akron, Ohio

Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)


Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 18 months recent permanent Med/Surg Telemetry nursing experience prior to travel assignment.
  • Must have a permanent Ohio nursing license or a compact state license in hand.
  • Certifications required:
    • AHA BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • AHA ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • Use of Qualivis – Lotus system for submitting hours worked.

Background Checks & Compliance

  • Background check required prior to start; must be updated annually and after breaks in service of 2+ months.
  • Monthly checks required for EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG.
  • FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 12 months of start; must be updated annually.
  • Fingerprinting must be completed within 48 hours of signed contract.
  • Candidates may start with fingerprint results pending but must complete fingerprinting prior to start.
  • Education verification required for all candidates.

Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS and ACLS: AHA only (Instructor or Provider); RQI acceptable. Must be current at start.
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): Preferred but not required.
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course): Required for ER; preferred for others.
  • NIH Stroke Certification: Preferred.
  • Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication): Required for all bedside RNs (except OR RNs), completed onsite during orientation.
  • State License Verification: Primary source verification within 30 days of start.
  • NURSYS Verification: Required within 30 days of start.
  • Unit-specific competency exams required within 12 months of start and updated annually.
  • Annual acknowledgment of Orientation Safety Manual and Pass/Fail Testing required.

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical Exam: Within 1 year of start, including Snellen eye exam (for candidates signing 4/11/2025 or later).
  • Fit Mask: Annual fit testing required (3M N95 1860 or 1870+).
  • Immunizations:
    • Tdap vaccine every 10 years.
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months.
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if titers negative/equivocal.
    • Hepatitis B: Titer, series, or declination.
    • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if titers negative/equivocal.
    • Seasonal Flu Vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (10/31 - 03/31).
  • Drug Testing: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually; instant drug screens not accepted.
  • Eye Exam: Required within 1 year of start for new candidates (Snellen exam).

Documentation & Onboarding

  • Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried on assignment.
  • Completion of online training modules prior to start; must be done on a computer using Google Chrome.
  • Modules include SafeMedicate Prep Materials and other facility-specific training.
  • Photo for badge required (headshot, shoulders up, white background).
  • References: 2 references from employment within 1 year of start (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director). Co-worker references not accepted.
  • Employment application must include 3 years prior work history with at least 2 years in acute care and similar area.
  • Annual skills checklist required.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates with gaps in employment longer than 40 days may need updated physical, immunizations, and other health documents.
  • Candidates must comply with all facility-specific onboarding and credentialing requirements.
  • Facility accommodates latex allergies; notification required to ensure latex-free gloves are stocked.
  • Fingerprinting and background checks are critical and must be completed timely to avoid delays.
  • Pass/Fail testing and competency exams are mandatory for clearance to start.
