Job Details

- Shift: Primarily 3x12 hour night shifts (variable); occasional days/evenings as needed
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
- Staffing: 100% RN staffed department; no floating outside ED
- Scheduling: No blocked scheduling allowed (union state)

- Pending License: AK RN license preferred; start date may be delayed 10-12 weeks if license pending

- Critical Access hospital serving as a Regional Referral Center for Southeast Alaska
- Serves Ketchikan and surrounding isolated islands with limited healthcare access
- Patient transport via fast boat and fixed-wing aircraft for emergent care
- Strong tourist season April through September increasing ED volume

Experience & Skills Required
- Preferred 2-3 years RN experience; minimum 1 year preferred
- ER experience preferred; new grads with emergency-related experience (paramedic, EMS, etc.) considered
- Must demonstrate independent management of:
- Cardiac, critical care, complex med/surg, psychiatric, and multiple trauma patients of all ages
- Ability to work in fast-paced, high volume, high-risk environment
- IV skills for all ages required
- Telemetry experience required
- Epic experience preferred (1 year)
- ABG experience preferred
Certifications Required/Preferred
- Alaska RN license
- ACLS (AHA, MTN, or Canadian AHA accepted; required for ICU, ER, PCU, Cath Lab, PACU, Telemetry, Respiratory Therapists)
- BLS (AHA, MTN, or Canadian AHA accepted)
- PALS (AHA, MTN, or Canadian AHA accepted; required for PICU, ER, PACU)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) required for ER
- ENPC preferred
- Other certifications that may be relevant depending on unit: NRP, CHEMO, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification
Work Environment & Requirements
- Ratios: 1:4 nurse to patient ratio
- No on-call required
- Must complete computer charting (Epic)
- Must pass color blind testing
- Must complete PeaceHealth orientation manual and orientation quiz with 100% score prior to start
- Must comply with PeaceHealth dress code and masking policy (N95 fit testing onsite if providing patient care)
- Physical exam required within 1 year of start
- Fit mask test required within 1 year and updated annually for onsite workers
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year required; TB questionnaire required if positive TB history
- Drug testing required within 30 days of start
- Required immunizations or declinations: Tdap, MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Flu seasonal vaccination or approved exemption
- Respiratory safety clearance required for onsite candidates
- Must complete PeaceHealth orientation modules and tests relevant to RN role prior to start
Background & Compliance
- Background check required within 60 days of start (7-year search including SSN trace, counties/states lived/worked, federal and national criminal checks)
- Social Security verification required (can start pending verification if I-9 and eVerify are on file)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required 15 days prior to start and every 45 days thereafter
- Fingerprinting required (2 FBI FD258 cards) with specific instructions for submission to Alaska DHSS and facility
- Must sign SSA release and criminal disclosure statement
- Must complete demographic and employment application forms
- Must complete various PeaceHealth facility-specific documents including orientation checklists, standards checklists, and policy reviews prior to start

- The ED is a high-acuity, fast-paced setting requiring strong clinical skills and adaptability.
- Union rules prohibit blocked scheduling.
