Job Opportunity: ICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Metairie, Louisiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Seeking an experienced ICU Registered Nurse for a travel/contract position. The role involves providing critical care nursing with a 1:2 patient ratio, occasionally flexing to 1:3. Nurses will float to all ICUs and may also float to the Emergency Department (ED) or Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) to care for ICU patients. Occasional float to Medical-Surgical/Progressive Care Units (MS/PCU) with 1:4 patient ratios may be required.

Required Experience

• Minimum 2 years of ICU nursing experience
• Epic electronic health record experience required

Work Schedule & Duties

• Weekends required: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
• No call required
• Float to multiple units as needed (ICUs, ED, PACU, MS/PCU)
• Perform lab sticks, EKGs, and line starts

Required Certifications

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) – can be obtained onsite if not already certified
• NIH Stroke Certification
• Candidates must know their N95 mask size due to potential COVID-19 patient care

Additional Requirements

• Must be able to care for isolation patients, including COVID-19 positive patients
• Return to Office (RTO) limited to 5 days total

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Louisiana
• Background check within 6 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
• Drug screening within 30 days of start (includes comprehensive panel)
• Immunizations and health documentation including:

  • Tdap vaccine within 10 years (declinations accepted with proper documentation)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 3 months of start
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
  • Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31), with exemptions accepted
• Competency exams (Medication/Pharmacology, Dysrhythmia/EKG) required annually with minimum 80% score
• Annual core competencies (Core Part I, II, III) required
• Employment application with 7 years of work history and no gaps over 30 days

Prior Travel Experience

• No explicit prior travel experience required

Summary

This ICU RN travel contract position requires at least 2 years of ICU experience, Epic system proficiency, and multiple certifications including ACLS, BLS, and CPI. The nurse will float across critical care units with a demanding schedule including weekends and must be prepared to care for isolation patients. Comprehensive health and background clearances are mandatory.
