Job Description

• Work in a brand new, state-of-the-art Emergency Department (ED) at a Level 3 trauma center with a 68-bed unit including super track, psych, trauma, and pediatrics.
• High acuity unit with patient ratios striving for 1:4 or 1:5, subject to change based on staffing, census, and acuity.
• All private rooms.
• Comprehensive Stroke Center and Regional Cardiac Center (Cath, EP, IR) on site.
• Support staff includes Patient Care Technicians (PCT), First-look RN, Triage RN, Charge RN, Secretary, Respiratory Therapist (RT), Lab, and Critical Response RN.
• Drip medications include TNK, Cleviprex, and Level 1 infusion for Massive Transfusion Protocol (MTP).
• Orientation consists of half-day clinical orientation and half-day shadowing on the unit with a nurse.
• Every other weekend schedule; no block schedule guaranteed.
• Parking available at no charge.

Required Qualifications

• Registered Nurse license valid in New York State.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in Emergency Nursing specialty.
• Prior travel experience required.
• Pediatric experience preferred.
• Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • TNCC or ATCN (Trauma Nursing Core Course or Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses)
  • NIH Stroke Certification
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system required.

Additional Requirements

• Must complete and maintain:

  • Background checks including 7-year work/school history and sex offender registry.
  • Annual EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks.
  • Education verification.
  • Harassment Prevention Training (New York specific).
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam.
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (required every 3 years for ICU, PCU, ER, CT ICU, and 7th Floor M/S Unit).
  • Color blindness testing prior to start.
• Health documents required:

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start.
  • Fit mask test within 1 year and updated annually (N95 or equivalent).
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year.
  • Immunizations or titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella.
  • 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season.
  • Pneumonia vaccination or declination.
• Must complete facility-specific online learning modules prior to first shift.
• Required to sign facility-specific job description and welcome packet acknowledgements.
• Provide a professional photo for badge.
• Provide 2 professional references from travel, allied, or per diem acute care within 3 years.

Summary

This is a travel contract position for an experienced Emergency Room Registered Nurse with at least 3 years of specialty experience and prior travel experience. The role requires multiple advanced certifications and the ability to work in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment with a diverse patient population including pediatrics.
