Job Summary
Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), the Monitor Tech provides bedside care and continuous cardiac monitoring for assigned patients. Responsibilities include interpreting cardiac rhythms, assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs), and supporting the patient's plan of care within established standards and policies. The role requires sound clinical judgment and effective communication with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor Services
- Generate, read, and interpret cardiac monitor strip print-outs based on patient needs and rhythm changes.
- Communicate changes in cardiac rhythms or dysrhythmias to appropriate healthcare team members.
- Complete routine and priority tasks within departmental time frames.
- Maintain monitoring equipment and understand physician-performed procedures and treatments.
- Mentor students and new nursing professionals to build confidence and skills.
Nursing Services
- Provide direct patient care under RN supervision, including vital signs, specimen collection, and admission/transfer/discharge procedures.
- Assist with basic patient care related to nutrition, elimination, hygiene, and mobility.
- Educate patients on examinations, tests, and medical procedures to reduce anxiety.
- Mentor and support new nursing assistants.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 2 years in specialty (Monitor Tech/Telemetry).
- Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- EKG Certification (or CCT/CRAT)
- CNA certification highly preferred.
- Must have valid California state license or certification relevant to the Monitor Tech role.
Prior Travel Experience

Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year background check including SSN trace, county searches, sex offender search, education verification, and FACIS Level 3 screening.
- Annual updates required for EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and FACIS screenings.
- Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids per CA law).
- Physical exam within 1 year of start.
- TB screening and questionnaire within 90 days of start, renewed annually.
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR)
- Hepatitis B series or declination
- Varicella
- Seasonal Flu vaccination during flu season (Nov-April) or signed declination
- Fit mask test within 1 year, renewed annually (with accommodations for religious exemptions or facial hair).
- Respiratory safety clearance prior to start, renewed annually.
Additional Requirements
- Must complete facility-specific documents including job description review, standards of business conduct, code of conduct, vendor training, and regulatory orientation prior to start.
- Employment application must include full 7 years of work history with no gaps.
- Unit-specific skills checklist and competency exams may be required.
- Competency exams may include medication test, dysrhythmia/EKG competency, and telemetry-specific tests.
