Job Opportunity: Sterile Processing Technician (SPT)
Location: Burlingame, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Responsible for decontamination, preparation and packing, sterilization, case cart picking and storage, and distribution of sterile instrumentation.
Shift Details
- 5 days per week, 8 hours per day (0800-1630)
- Weekend rotation required, no on-call requirement
Required Qualifications
- HSPCA/CRCST certification
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a Sterile Processing Technician (SPT)
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year background check required within 6 months of start
- Various federal and state screenings including FACIS Level 3, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, Sex Offender Search, OFAC Sanctions List, and others as applicable
- Education verification required (highest level achieved)
- Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids due to CA law)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- TB screening and annual renewal required
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (series or declination)
- Varicella
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination required during flu season (Nov-Apr)
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start, renewed annually (specific mask types required)
- Respiratory safety clearance required annually
Certifications
- HSPCA/CRCST certification (required)
Documentation and Compliance
- Must provide a passport-style photo for badge
- Must review and sign facility-specific documents including job description, standards of business conduct, confidentiality agreement, vendor training, code of conduct, overpayment refund policy, and others prior to start
- Must complete TB questionnaire within 90 days of start and annually thereafter
- Employment application must include full 7 years of work history with no gaps
- References: 2 professional references required (Aya requirement, not client)
Additional Notes
- No prior travel experience explicitly required
- Weekend rotation is mandatory
- Facility does not allow PAPR onsite for fit test failures; escalation required if no other options available
- Candidates with religious or medical exemptions for vaccines or facial hair must complete specific exemption forms and obtain approval
This position is ideal for Sterile Processing Technicians with at least 1 year of experience, current certification, and the ability to work a weekday schedule with weekend rotations in a California healthcare facility.
