CVICU Registered Nurse

Overview

  • Travel/contract role in New Brunswick, New Jersey
  • Night shift, 3x12 hours
  • 36 hours per week
  • Contract length: 13 weeks

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in New Jersey
  • CVICU (2 years of experience)
  • CVICU experience within the last year
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support issued by American Heart Association
  • BLS - Basic Life Support issued by American Heart Association
  • NIHSS
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Experience with fresh post-op cardiac cases including CABG, MVR, AVR, and TAVR
  • Experience with Impella device management
  • Experience with IABP (Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump)
  • Experience with CRRT (Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy) using PrisMax
  • Ability to insert and manage A-lines
  • Ability to insert and remove chest tubes
  • Experience with BiPAP/CPAP management
  • Experience with vented patient care and ventilator management
  • Ability to interpret cardiac dysrhythmias
  • Experience with temporary pacemaker management
  • Experience with Epic

Clinical Experience

  • CVICU care
  • SICU experience may be considered if initial training in a CVICU was completed
  • Fresh post-op cardiac cases
  • Impella
  • IABP
  • CRRT using PrisMax
  • A-lines
  • Blood product administration
  • Central/PICC lines
  • IV starts
  • Continuous IV paralytics/neuromuscular blockade and sedation
  • Emergency medications
  • Procedural sedation administration and monitoring
  • Cardiac/vasoactive drip titration
  • IV insulin protocols
  • Chest tube insertion/removal
  • BiPAP/CPAP
  • Ventilated patient care
  • HFNC
  • ABGs
  • Suctioning (ETT, NT)
  • Ventilator management
  • CABG
  • Cardiac surgery from or not directly from the OR
  • TAVR
  • Valve repair/replacement
  • Post-op open heart recovery
  • Temporary pacers
  • FloTrac/Vigileo monitoring
  • Dysrhythmia interpretation
  • 12-lead EKG
  • Chronic/acute renal failure
  • CVVHD/CRRT
  • CVA/acute stroke
  • Hypothermia protocol/Arctic Sun
  • Lumbar drains
  • Multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
  • Infection prevention
  • Isolation precautions/PPE
  • Phlebotomy

Scheduling and Work Expectations

  • Every other weekend
  • Must work 1 of 2 or 2 of 3 holidays, per unit needs
  • Must float within skillset without exception
  • Floating includes all ICUs, PACU ICU holds, ED ICU holds, and Cardiac IMC units
  • Locals accepted
  • First-time travelers accepted

Charting

  • EPIC experience required

  • Navy blue scrubs
  • Ratios: 1:1:2+
