Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical

Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Night shift (18:45 – 07:15), 12-hour shifts, 36 or 48 hours per week accepted
Target nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:6-7
Charge nurse role required for night travelers
Floating to similar units and alternate care locations with inpatient holding required
Assigned to every other weekend and must work holidays
May care for COVID-19 patients
Assigned to Inclement Weather Team and Storm/Hurricane Team; may be required to report during catastrophic events or disasters
Patient population: Adults and geriatrics, general medical/surgical patients, daily census ~43
Special procedures include insulin and heparin drips, wound vac dressing changes, high flow oxygen, occasional short-term BiPAP (no additional training required)
No PCU level patients on this unit
Unit systems: PYXIS (medication), EPIC (documentation), SBAR (communication)
Unit orientation: 24 hours
Scrubs: Not provided; navy color required

Required Qualifications

Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Experience in charge nurse roles
Proficiency with EPIC electronic health record system
