Operating Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Primarily focused on Neuro skillsets (approximately 75% Neuro cases)
  • Day shift with possible night shift rotation
  • Shift length: 12 hours (Day: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM; Night: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
  • Weekly hours: 36
  • Possible off-shifting 1-3 shifts per 4-week period, but often no off-shifting available
  • Call requirements:
    • Weeknight call: 1-2 nights per week on average
    • Weekend call: Approximately every 4-5 weeks (24-hour coverage on Saturday or Sunday, 1-2 days per month)
  • Block scheduling is not allowed
  • Scrubs provided by the facility for OR/SPT staff
  • Facility is 100% nicotine-free
  • Local candidates are not accepted; must live more than 100 miles from the facility

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Nebraska
  • Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Completion of at least one travel assignment
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • ACLS certification
  • PALS certification
  • NRP certification
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID required
  • Background check within 30 days of start and updated annually, including:
    • Multi-county and statewide checks for the past 7 years
    • Social Security Number trace
    • Sex offender registry
    • Federal and nationwide criminal checks
    • Education verification
  • SAM and OIG checks required within 30 days of start and monthly thereafter
  • State-specific abuse/neglect registry search required within 30 days of start
  • Primary source verification of state license and NURSYS verification required prior to start
  • Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgement required
  • Certifications as applicable:
    • ACLS (if required by unit)
    • PALS (if required by unit)
    • NRP (if required by unit)
    • NIH Stroke Certification (if applicable)
  • Competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency as applicable
  • Annual skills checklist required
  • Two professional references from work within the past 2 years required
  • Physical exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually
  • Fit test for N95 masks within 1 year of start and updated annually (3M 1860 Small/Regular or 3M 1870+)
  • Immunizations and health screenings required:
    • Tdap/Tetanus vaccine within last 10 years
    • Annual PPD or equivalent TB screening with chest x-ray if history positive
    • MMR (2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters if low/equivocal titers)
    • Hepatitis B titer or declination
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters if low/equivocal titers)
    • Drug screen within 60 days of start and updated annually (urine panel including multiple substances)
    • Flu vaccine preferred but not mandatory; documentation or declination required
    • COVID vaccine preferred; medical/religious exemption or declination accepted
  • Baseline eye exam (Snellen) required within 30 days of start for OR staff only

Additional Information

  • Call-back pay applies only if called back after leaving the facility post-shift
  • Extended shifts due to census or case overruns are paid at regular rate until overtime applies
  • Travelers are paid differently than core staff and do not receive core staff incentives
  • Parking permits available (~$55/month) or daily parking rates apply

This position is ideal for experienced OR RNs with prior travel assignments who have strong neuro and robotic surgery skills and are comfortable with call and rotating shifts.
