• Position: NICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
• Location: Lafayette, Louisiana
• Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:45 AM - 7:15 PM)
• Hours per week: 36
• Contract Length: 8 weeks

Job Description

• Nurses may be assigned to an "Emergency Team" during emergency events, requiring them to stay at the facility until the event passes or serve as part of a relief team.
• Floating assignments include mother-baby and pediatrics units.
• Weekend coverage is every other weekend.
• Average daily census: 30 patients.
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:3.
• Epic electronic health record experience is required.
• The unit accepts first-time travel nurses only if they have at least 3 years of NICU experience.
• Nurses with prior travel experience must have a minimum of 2 years NICU experience.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Louisiana
• Minimum 3 years of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) experience
• NICU experience within the last year
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

• Valid, current driver's license or government-issued photo ID (color copy required).
• Background checks including:

  • 7-year criminal background check (within 90 days of start).
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG checks (within 30 days of start, updated monthly).
  • Sex offender search (within 30 days of start, updated monthly).
• Education verification or transcript/diploma if verification is not possible.
• License verification and NURSYS verification within 30 days of start.
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start (no instant screenings).
• Physical exam within 12 months indicating good health.
• Fit mask testing (N95) within 1 year of start; onsite fit testing available if needed.
• Immunizations and titers required:

  • Tdap (for NICU, Mother/Baby, ED, Pediatrics) valid for 10 years.
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: positive IGG titer or completed vaccine series.
  • Hepatitis B: positive antibody titer, completed vaccine series, booster, or signed declination.
  • Varicella: positive IGG titer, completed vaccine series, or booster.
• Negative TB test (PPD, Qgold, or Tspot) within 12 months; chest X-ray and TB questionnaire if positive.
• Seasonal flu vaccination, medical or religious exemption, or declination required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31).
• Skills checklist and competency exam specific to specialty, updated annually.
• Photo for badge: full color, passport-style, taken within last 6 months.

Additional Notes

• Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification is not required for ICU specialties.
• Candidates must be comfortable with emergency event assignments as described.
