NICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Specialty: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Registered Nurse
- Shift: Night shift, 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
- Guaranteed 36 hours per week; facility may call off up to 3 shifts during the 13-week assignment
- No local candidates accepted within 100 miles
- Floating required within scope to Pediatric ICU, Level II NICU, and Mother-Baby Unit (MBU)
- Mixed acuity unit requiring care for Level 4 NICU patients, including neonates as early as 32 weeks gestation and full-term newborns
- Must be proficient with IV vasopressors, High Frequency Ventilation, High Flow Nasal Cannula, Respiratory Distress Syndrome management, and ventilator management
- Weekend requirement: 12 shifts per contract
- First-time travelers accepted
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Mexico (pending license accepted)
- Minimum 2 years of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) experience, with experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
Additional Requirements & Notes
- No on-call required
- New contracts and extensions must be at least 10 weeks
- A 6-month break is required after 4 consecutive assignments or 1 year of travel work, whichever comes first
- Overtime applies after 48 hours worked per week (effective 10/30/2025)
- Facility is a Level I Trauma, Teaching, Children’s Hospital with 554 staffed beds
- Charting system: Cerner
- Free parking available
- Facility is not near public transportation; candidates must have reliable transportation
- Work experience verification required for 3 years, including detailed documentation of previous positions
- Two professional references within 3 years required
- Complete employment application with at least 3 years of work history required
- Work Experience Checklist and Confidentiality Statement are not required due to crisis credentialing policies
- Traveler Compliance Form must be completed and uploaded prior to start
- Fingerprinting cost ($88.30) is candidate’s responsibility unless exception granted
- Fit mask testing required within 1 year of start; only specific N95 masks accepted; PAPR accommodation available if needed
