Job Opportunity: PCU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Overland Park, Kansas
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:45 - 7:15)
Patient-to-nurse ratio: 1:5
Float Pool Position: No home unit; float between approximately 5 Med/Surg Intermediate/PCU units and other metro campuses as needed
Weekend Requirement: 8 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule period (Friday, Saturday, Sunday combination)
Holiday shifts and Charge RN assignments as needed
No on-call required
No block scheduling accommodation
Local candidates not accepted (must live at least 75 miles from facility)
Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: No more than 7 days

Required Qualifications

Valid RN license in Kansas
Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Experience in Med/Surg and Telemetry

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

Government-issued ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches, sex offender registry, and international searches if applicable
Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
Education verification of highest nursing degree (no pending verification at start)
Professional license primary source verification (NURSYS for Missouri licenses)
Drug testing within 1 year of start, including panels for amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methadone, opiates, oxycodone, PCP; must not expire during assignment
Physical exam within 1 year of start
Fit mask testing (N95 models) required annually
Immunizations and titers:
- Tdap vaccine or declination (expires every 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray per protocol
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
Competency exams:
- Unit-specific competency exam (updated annually)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (new exam required for all new contracts, 80% pass rate)
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam
- Color blindness test within 12 months of start
Skills checklist within 1 year of start (oncology skills checklist if applicable)
Employment application and professional references (two required, supervisors preferred)
Facility-specific documents including HIPAA acknowledgement, confidentiality form, hand hygiene, fingernail, dress code policies, and regulatory compliance education (annual updates required)
Badge photo (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months)
