Job Opportunity: PCU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Overland Park, Kansas
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:45 - 7:15)
- Patient-to-nurse ratio: 1:5
- Float Pool Position: No home unit; float between approximately 5 Med/Surg Intermediate/PCU units and other metro campuses as needed
- Weekend Requirement: 8 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule period (Friday, Saturday, Sunday combination)
- Holiday shifts and Charge RN assignments as needed
- No on-call required
- No block scheduling accommodation
- Local candidates not accepted (must live at least 75 miles from facility)
- Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: No more than 7 days
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Kansas
- Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience in Med/Surg and Telemetry
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
- Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches, sex offender registry, and international searches if applicable
- Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
- Education verification of highest nursing degree (no pending verification at start)
- Professional license primary source verification (NURSYS for Missouri licenses)
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, including panels for amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methadone, opiates, oxycodone, PCP; must not expire during assignment
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask testing (N95 models) required annually
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tdap vaccine or declination (expires every 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray per protocol
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
- Competency exams:
- Unit-specific competency exam (updated annually)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (new exam required for all new contracts, 80% pass rate)
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam
- Color blindness test within 12 months of start
- Skills checklist within 1 year of start (oncology skills checklist if applicable)
- Employment application and professional references (two required, supervisors preferred)
- Facility-specific documents including HIPAA acknowledgement, confidentiality form, hand hygiene, fingernail, dress code policies, and regulatory compliance education (annual updates required)
- Badge photo (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months)
