Job Opportunity: Oncology Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts of 12 hours (19:00 - 7:30)
Contract Length: 16 weeks
Job Description
- Work on a Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) unit with Oncology / Mixed acuity Medical-Surgical and Telemetry (MS/Tele) patients.
- Patient diagnoses include various hematologic malignancies and disorders such as:
- Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL)
- Acute Myeloid Leukemia (Adult)
- Amyloidosis
- Aplastic Anemia
- Chronic Leukemia (including CLL and Myeloid Leukemia)
- Hodgkin's and Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma
- Multiple Myeloma
- Myelodysplastic Syndrome
- Myeloproliferative Disorders
- Special procedures include:
- Autologous, Syngeneic, and Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplants
- CAR-T Therapy
- Shift assignments may rotate between days and nights based on staffing needs, reviewed every 4 weeks but not guaranteed.
Required Experience & Skills
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio.
- Minimum 1 year of Hematology/Oncology nursing experience within the last year.
- Experience in Medical-Surgical nursing.
- Proficient in telemetry monitoring and interpretation of dysrhythmias.
- Skilled in:
- Use of Rapid Response Teams
- Feeding tube care and management
- Blood product administration
- Central and peripheral line care and blood draws
- PICC line management
- Nasal cannula administration
- Experience with computerized charting, specifically the EPIC system.
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Oncology chemotherapy certification is not required but Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy Certification is preferred.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification is preferred.
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting with specific Ohio codes. Fingerprinting must be current within 1 year of start date.
- Education must be from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA).
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, opiates, etc.).
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
- Immunizations and health documentation required:
- Tdap (adult dose)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B titer or vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
- Fit mask test required annually for inpatient/patient-facing roles, valid for entire assignment length or completed onsite.
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually.
- Background and compliance policies must be reviewed and signed annually.
Additional Requirements
- Completion of medication/pharmacology competency exam prior to start.
- Unit-specific competency exams including Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam within 1 year of start (with remediation process if needed).
- Two professional references required, including at least one from a manager or formal leadership.
- Employment application and skills checklist required.
Notes
- Shift rotations may include days or nights depending on unit needs.
- Candidates must be prepared to comply with all facility-specific policies including dress code and hand hygiene.
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.

Units are nice, staff are kind. Single patient rooms with 4:1 ratios day and night on med surg.
Cons
Scheduled every weekend, floated for the first 6 weeks of contract every shift. Not traveler friendly even though they say they are. Staff are treated well not travelers.
