Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – SICU (Night Shift)
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Schedule & Hours
- Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
- Every other weekend required
- 36 hours per week (3 shifts of 12 hours)
Unit & Specialty
- Surgical ICU (SICU)
- Preferred experience in Surgical ICU, Trauma ICU, Burn ICU, or Transplant ICU
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio
- Minimum 2 years of recent Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS certification
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Competencies & Exams
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required prior to start)
- Unit-specific competency exam required
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%; max 3 attempts)
Documentation & Systems
- Electronic Health Record: Epic
- Medication dispensing systems: Pyxis, Accudose, Omnicell
- Communication method: SBAR
Background & Credentialing Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881)
- Education verification from accredited nursing programs (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA) required
- License verification and NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start
- Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending
- 2 professional references required (at least one from a manager/director or formal leadership)
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) or chest x-ray within 1 year
- Annual TB questionnaire required
- Tdap vaccine (adult dose) required; exemptions not allowed for those working with infants or pregnant patients
- 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for Rubeola, Mumps, and Rubella (boosters required if low titer)
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required unless medically exempted
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (signed declination acceptable)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (new travelers cannot start with pending drug screen)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination required during flu season (10/1 - 3/31); mask required if declining
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended
- Annual fit mask test required for inpatient/patient-facing roles starting 7/13/2026 and beyond
Additional Requirements & Notes
- Dress code and hand hygiene policy must be reviewed and signed
- Confidential Fraud, Waste, Abuse, and Compliance Reporting Mechanism form required
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
- Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment required annually
- Employment application and skills checklist required
- Parking options available for travelers (various permit levels with shuttle services and proximity differences)
