Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Observation Unit
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Description
- Medical Surgical/Solid Organ Transplant Unit (36-bed) providing medical surgical, telemetry, and progressive care to adult pre- and post-liver, kidney, pancreas, intestinal transplant, and intestinal rehabilitation patients.
- Adolescent patients (age 15+) are on the unit but cared for by core staff only.
- Patient-to-nurse ratios: 1:5 (days), 1:6 (nights), occasionally 1:7 nights (rare).
- Drip infusions required on all floors.
- EPIC charting experience required.
- Floating required frequently to meet staffing needs, including potential float to other units and campuses within the system.
Schedule & Work Requirements
- 36 or 48-hour shift options available.
- Weekend shifts: 4 out of 8 possible in a 4-week period (days: Sat/Sun; nights: Fri/Sat).
- Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays.
- Up to two weeks of time off (RTO) permitted, with restrictions during certain blackout dates.
- Local candidates not accepted (must live more than 100 miles away).
Required Qualifications
- Registered Nurse license valid in Nebraska (pending license accepted but must be in hand before start).
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience in a large, urban hospital setting.
- First-time travel nurses not accepted unless they have 2 years of experience at a Level I Academic Medical Center.
- BLS and ACLS certifications required.
- NIH Stroke Certification and CPI preferred.
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required but first-timers generally not accepted.
- Experience with drips and EPIC electronic medical records required.
Additional Requirements & Information
- Must be prepared to float within scope to various units as needed.
- Facility is 100% nicotine-free.
- Scrubs are mandatory (specific color and style required).
- Parking permits available for purchase or daily parking rates apply.
- Background checks, drug screening, and various health documents (vaccinations, TB testing, physical exam, fit testing) required prior to start and maintained annually.
- Annual skills checklist and references from work within the past 2 years required.
- COVID vaccination preferred but exemptions accepted.
