Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse

Location: Fredericksburg, Virginia
Employment Type: Per Diem
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Labor and Delivery RN needed for per diem shifts.
  • Will float to ICU, cardiac progressive care unit, observation, and surgical intermediate care units.
  • May also float to NICU or Mother-Baby units.
  • Shifts are 12 hours, day shift.
  • Orientation includes 3 days: Day 1 (8 am - 7 pm orientation), Days 2 and 3 (12-hour shadow shifts).
  • RNs must complete required modules before orientation.
  • Patient ratio approximately 1:2.
  • 12-month separation period required between assignments.
  • COVID vaccination not required; flu vaccination required by October 31 (medical/religious exemptions accepted).

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Virginia
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 1 year of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience within the last year
  • Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS issued by American Heart Association
    • BLS issued by American Heart Association
    • PALS issued by American Heart Association
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
    • AWHONN or Fetal Heart Rate (FHR) certification
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Preferred Qualifications

  • AWHONN Intermediate certification

Orientation & Training

  • Day 1: Orientation (8 am - 7 pm)
  • Days 2 & 3: Shadow shifts (12-hour shifts) scheduled based on unit and clinical availability

Additional Requirements & Information

  • Must complete agency-required modules prior to orientation.
  • Physical exam required within 1 year prior to start.
  • Background checks including criminal, education verification, and drug screening required.
  • Annual flu vaccination required unless medically or religiously exempted.
  • Fit mask (N95) testing required unless exempted.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes.
  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required.
  • Competency exams required for all clinical candidates.
  • Color blindness testing required for clinical candidates.
  • Must sign confidentiality, code of conduct, orientation packet, and other facility-specific documents prior to start.

  • 12-hour day shifts
  • Floating to multiple critical care and intermediate care units
