Job Opportunity: ECMO Specialist
Location: Cincinnati, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
The ECMO Specialist provides prolonged cardiac and respiratory support to patients whose heart and lungs cannot adequately sustain life. This role involves managing ECMO support in critical care units including NICU, PICU, and CICU. Patients are supported on ECMO for respiratory and/or heart failure until recovery or as a bridge to transplant.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Respiratory Therapist license in Ohio
- Minimum 2 years of Respiratory Therapist experience, including experience within the last year
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ECMO specialist experience with pump management
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Proof of identity and eligibility to work (e.g., government-issued photo ID, Social Security documentation)
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history and other federal/state screenings
- Education verification (transcript/diploma)
- Physical exam confirming ability to meet physical demands, updated annually
- Immunizations and health screenings including:
- TDAP vaccine within 10 years
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) immunity verification
- Hepatitis B vaccination or immunity
- Varicella immunity
- Drug screening (10-panel, including marijuana) within 30 days of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination (required during flu season)
- Onsite fingerprinting on first day of assignment
- Completion of health screening forms prior to start
Additional Requirements
- Minimum 3 years prior work history including at least 2 years of clinical practice in an acute care setting relevant to the assignment
- Proof of at least 2 professional references from supervisors or professional co-workers
- Completion of competency exams and unit-specific skills checklists, updated annually
- Acknowledgement of safety and compliance manuals, including HIPAA
