Travel/Contract Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical

Location: Augusta, Georgia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 14 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse for a General Medical-Surgical unit caring for adult to geriatric patients. The nurse will work with a patient ratio of approximately 1:6 and utilize systems such as Epic, Pyxis, and SBAR. Floating within the facility as needed is required.


Required Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of nursing experience in the specialty.
  • 1st time travelers are accepted.
  • Prior travel experience is not required.

Work Schedule & Requirements

  • Weekends: Every other weekend.
  • Floating: Yes, within facility and scope of practice.
  • Holidays: If one major holiday falls during the assignment, the nurse is expected to work it; if two, both; if three, two of the holidays.
  • Return to Orientation (RTO): Maximum 7 days.
  • Compliance with all onboarding and credentialing requirements is mandatory to start on time.

  • Adults to Geriatrics

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or ARC accepted.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – Required for certain specialties; verify if applicable.
  • Other certifications (PALS, NRP, EFM) may be required depending on unit; confirm based on specialty/unit.

Licensure

  • Valid Registered Nurse license for the state of Georgia is required.

Orientation & Competency Requirements

  • Non-billable orientation hours are proportional to contract length (e.g., 8 hours for 8 weeks).
  • Competency exams may be required, including medication/pharmacology, dysrhythmia/EKG, and color blindness testing.
  • Skills checklist within 12 months and work history verification required.

Health & Background Requirements

  • Background check required within 30 days of start; must be complete prior to start.
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start.
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months; TB questionnaire required annually.
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required or proof of immunity: MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tdap (highly recommended), Flu vaccine or declination.
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start.

Additional Notes

  • Floating within the facility as needed.
  • Dress code: Navy blue scrubs.
  • Candidate must review and sign code of conduct and professional appearance policies prior to start.
  • References: Two clinical references required.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Georgia
  • Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical nursing experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
