Job Opportunity: RRT Pediatrics
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-call: No
- Floating: May float within scope depending on experience
- First-time travelers: Accepted
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in Respiratory Therapy with Pediatric, Neonate, and Infant experience
- Certifications:
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
- Licenses: South Carolina Respiratory Care Provider (RCP) license required at start
- Preferred: Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Work Environment
- Teaching hospital with Magnet status and Level 1 Trauma designation
- Total staffed beds: 865
- Charting system: Epic
- Scrub color: Caribbean Blue
- Parking available at a nominal cost for nights and weekends
Important Notes
- Radius rule: 60 miles; local candidates considered on a case-by-case basis
- Guaranteed hours: Facility may cancel 1 shift every 2 weeks
- Hurricane season: June through November; staff may be assigned to emergency response teams during this period
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Proof of work eligibility (I-9) and valid driver’s license/state ID
- Social Security card or number verification
- Annual background check covering last 7 years, including criminal and sex offender registry checks
- Education verification or diploma/transcripts as placeholder
- Drug screening: 10-panel drug test within 90 days of start
- Physical exam updated annually, attesting ability to meet job demands
- Fit test for N95 mask within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: positive titers or vaccination series with boosters as needed
- Hepatitis B: titer, vaccine series, or declination
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or chest x-ray if prior positive
- Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season
- COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
- Color blindness test required prior to start
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam required
- Competency exam required
- Clear, passport-style photo for badge required before start
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
- Employment history verification for last 3 clinical employers
Orientation & Training
- Completion of facility-specific orientation modules prior to start (approx. 2 hours)
- Upload vaccination records and required documents into facility system before orientation
- Radiation badge may be required depending on unit assignment (not typical for this role)
Additional Notes
- Candidates must have South Carolina RRT license in hand at start
- Pending state licenses are not accepted
- Approval required for any requested time off before assignment
- Facility may accommodate block scheduling with prior approval (not guaranteed)
