Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse with a minimum of 2 years of experience in medical-surgical nursing. First-time travelers are accepted if they meet the experience requirement. The unit primarily cares for adult to geriatric patients, including those with COVID-19 and high respiratory needs.

Patient Population

• Adults to Geriatrics
• COVID-19 patients requiring specialized respiratory support (HiFlow, CPAP, BiPAP)
• Patients needing blood transfusions, wound vacs, and specialty beds

Unit Details

• 23 beds, nurse-to-patient ratio approximately 1:6
• All private rooms with capability for negative pressure
• Equipped with cameras, baby monitors, dinemaps, and computers in every room
• Unit systems include Epic, Pyxis, and SBAR
• Scrub color: Navy Blue

Schedule & Work Requirements

• Weekend shifts: Every other weekend (5 to 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule)
• Floating: Yes, within facility and possibly to a nearby campus, within scope of practice
• Call: None
• Holidays: If 1 major holiday falls during assignment, expected to work it; if 2 holidays, expected to work both; if 3 holidays, expected to work 2
• Major holidays include Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Eve/Day
• Return to Office (RTO) requirement: Maximum 7 days

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Georgia
• Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross

Clinical Skills & Equipment Familiarity

• Experience with respiratory support devices: HiFlow, CPAP, BiPAP
• Ability to manage COVID-19 patients and high respiratory needs
• Skilled in blood transfusions, wound vac management, and specialty beds

Orientation & Onboarding

• Orientation hours vary based on contract length (e.g., 8 hours for 8-week assignment)
• Background check and education verification required prior to start
• Physical exam and health screenings required (TB test, immunizations, drug screen, etc.)
• References and skills checklist required

Health & Safety Requirements

• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
• Up-to-date immunizations or titers for MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, and others as applicable
• Seasonal flu vaccination or documented declination required
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start

• Floating may include coverage at a sister campus within the same city
• No call responsibilities
• Locals accepted at the same rate as travelers
• Must be able to work assigned holidays as outlined
• Compliance with dress code and professional appearance policies required
