Job Opportunity: Pediatric PACU Registered Nurse

Location: San Francisco, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • 12-hour day shifts
  • Recent experience required in Pediatric Pre-Op/PACU and Pediatric Critical Care
  • Ability to float to other facilities within the system

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Pediatrics PACU - Post Anesthetic Care
  • Recent Pediatric PACU - Post Anesthetic Care experience within the last year
  • Experience working with pediatric patients
  • Current certifications issued by the American Heart Association:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

Preferred Certifications

  • CCRN (Critical Care Registered Nurse)
  • CPAN (Certified Post Anesthesia Nurse)
  • CAPA (Certified Ambulatory Perianesthesia Nurse)

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Valid government-issued photo ID matching professional license
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history, nationwide and specialty searches
  • Education verification (diploma or transcript acceptable)
  • Primary source license verification within 30 days of start
  • Drug testing (standard 9-panel, excluding THC) within 30 days of start, renewed every 2 years
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, including fitness to work statement
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start (specific mask types required)
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years, no declinations accepted)
    • Two negative TB tests (one within 1 year, one within 3 months) or chest X-ray if positive
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (IGG titer or 2 vaccines)
    • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
    • Varicella (IGG titer or 2 vaccines)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or facility-specific declination (required during flu season)
    • COVID-19 vaccination or approved exemption/declination as per current policy

Competency and Training Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam with passing score of 80% or higher
  • Unit-specific competency exam within 12 months of start, passing score 80%+
  • Core clinical training modules (Parts I, II, III) with passing score 80%+ completed within a year prior to start and updated annually
  • Pass/fail Telemetry and Medication exams on first day of orientation (with up to 3 retake attempts)
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) may be required depending on unit
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification if applicable

Additional Information

  • Two supervisory references required, preferably from the most recent employment
  • Resume with last 7 years of work history; gaps of 30+ days must be explained
  • Skills checklist updated annually
  • Must complete facility-specific learning modules and orientation requirements before starting clinical work
  • Ability to comply with facility-specific policies including COVID-19 preparedness and vaccination requirements

This position requires a dedicated pediatric PACU nurse with strong critical care skills and the ability to adapt to multiple pediatric care settings. Compliance with all licensure, certification, immunization, and competency requirements is mandatory.
