Job Opportunity: Certified Surgical First Assistant

Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

• Specialty: Surgical Services
• Shift: Day shift, Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM (5 days x 8 hours = 40 hours/week)
• Call Requirements:

  • Typically every third day Monday - Thursday from 3:30 PM to 7:00 AM
  • Weekend call every third week:

    • Friday on call from 3:30 PM to 7:00 AM
    • Saturday and Sunday call from 7:00 AM to 7:00 AM
  • Weekend work required every other weekend (may change to every third or fourth weekend)
• Hard Stop Requirement: Endoscopic vein harvesting experience is mandatory

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of CVOR Technologist experience, including experience within the last year
• One completed travel assignment
• Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ABSA or NBSTSA or NCCT certification
  • FA (First Assistant) certification
• CVOR First Assist experience
• Licensure: Must hold a valid license appropriate for Certified Surgical First Assistant role

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

• Background Check: Must be completed within 6 months prior to start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in the past 7 years; includes Social Security trace, county, nationwide, sex offender, federal extended, and FACIS Level 3 checks; updated annually
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
• Government-issued photo ID matching candidate documentation required
• Employment application must include 7 years of work history with no gaps over 30 days
• Drug Screening:

  • For candidates signed on/after 9/25/23: Drug screen within 30 days of start covering a comprehensive panel including marijuana, cocaine, amphetamines, opiates, and others
• Physical Exam: Required within 12 months prior to start
• Immunizations and Health Documentation:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years (declinations accepted with proper documentation)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 3 months of start (two-step skin test or equivalent)
  • Annual TB questionnaire required
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): Proof of 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters required if titer is low
  • Hepatitis B: Series, titer, or declination signed within 12 months of start
  • Varicella: Proof of 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters required if titer is low
  • Seasonal Flu Vaccination: Required October 1 – March 31 for new starts beginning 10/1/2025; exemptions and declinations accepted with proper documentation; mask required if unvaccinated
• Competency Exams: Must be completed within 12 months prior to start and updated annually, including medication/pharmacology and dysrhythmia/EKG competency exams (80% minimum score)
• Core Competencies: Core Part I, II, and III required and must be updated annually

Additional Notes

• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification may be required depending on unit assignment but is not specifically noted for this role
• Employee appearance policy and flu declination forms must be acknowledged prior to starting
• Candidates must be prepared for call and weekend work as outlined
