ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job – Albuquerque, New Mexico
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse – Neuro ICU
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico
- Shift: Night (4 shifts of 12 hours each; 19:00–7:30)
- Hours per Week: 48
- Contract Length: 13 weeks (minimum 10 weeks for new contracts and extensions)
- Start Date: ASAP
- Patient Ratios: Typically 1:2; may float to other units with ratios up to 6:1 occasionally
- Floating: May float within scope to other ICUs, PCU floors (including med-surg patients), ED, and PACU to care for admitted patients
- Weekend Requirement: Varies based on unit needs
- Block Scheduling: Possible but not guaranteed
- Local Radius Rule: No locals within 100 miles accepted
- Pending License: Accepted
- Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: Absences greater than 7 days require approval
- Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off up to 3 times during a 13-week assignment
Patient Diagnoses & Special Requirements
- Common Diagnoses: Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Subarachnoid Hemorrhage (SAH), Subdural Hematoma (SDH), Tumor Resections, Status Epilepticus, other neurologic disorders
- Special Skills Required:
- Management of EVD (External Ventricular Drain) insertions and care
- Neuro post-operative care
- A-line insertions
- Intubation
- Central line insertion
- Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)
- Post-TPA and post-thrombectomy care
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Intracranial Pressure (ICP) monitoring

Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Mexico
- Minimum 1.5 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) nursing experience, with ICU experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Successful completion of Relias Basic Dysrhythmia Exam
Additional Notes
- Travelers may be asked to switch to Cardiothoracic ICU if needed; current pay rate honored if reassigned
- No on-call requirement
- New contracts and extensions must be at least 10 weeks
- A 6-month break is required after 4 consecutive assignments or one year of cumulative work, whichever comes first
- Facility uses Cerner; Cerner training attestation required for new hires (test-out option available)
- Work Experience Checklist and Confidentiality Statement are not required due to crisis credentialing policies
- Traveler Compliance Form and other facility-specific documents must be completed and uploaded prior to start
