Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Job Details

• Unit: 2E overflow
• Shift Options: 3x12 hour shifts or 4x12 hour shifts
• Experience Required: Minimum 2 years
• First Time Travelers: Not accepted
• Local Candidates: Not accepted
• Pending License: Not accepted; must have Indiana state license and required certifications in hand before submitting
• Charge Nurse Coverage: May be required based on operational needs; training and resources provided
• Holiday Work Requirement: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
• License Restriction (Effective 11/30/2024): Indiana RNs generally not allowed to work at IU Health facilities except for Perioperative/OR, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (including ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS)

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only, RQI acceptable
• NIH Stroke Scale Certification
• Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, EFM)

Required Documents & Compliance

• Valid Indiana RN license verified online within 30 days of start
• Background checks including:

  • 7-year SSN Trace, County Criminal, Statewide, National Sex Offender, FACIS Level III
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM within 30 days of start
  • HHS/OIG within 30 days of start
• Education verification and official transcripts/diplomas
• Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
• Physical exam within 12 months of start
• Fit mask test within 12 months (approved respirators only)
• Immunizations and titers:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (preferred but not required)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
  • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
  • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
  • Seasonal Flu vaccination/documentation required for 2025-26 season; no declinations accepted except approved medical/religious exemptions
• Competency exams including medication/pharmacology and unit competency exam
• Color blindness testing (Ishihara or equivalent) with 100% minimum score
• References: Minimum 2 from recent employment with managerial/supervisory titles
• Employment application covering last 7 years with explanations for gaps over 30 days
• Skills checklist completed within 12 months and annually
• Facility-specific forms and orientation packets must be completed prior to start

Additional Notes

• Charge pay available for charge nurse duties (additional pay per hour)
• On-site fit testing available only as a last resort and not at certain campuses
• PAPR respirators available on-site with prior facility approval
• Strict compliance with IU Health policies and documentation requirements is mandatory

This position is suitable for experienced Indiana-licensed RNs who meet all certification and compliance requirements and are willing to work required shifts and holidays.
