Registered Nurse (Med/Surg) - Traveler Position
Location: Grand Island, Nebraska
Employment Type: Traveler - Backfill
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Perform patient assessments and reassessments based on presenting problems and needs.
- Synthesize patient data to identify nursing priorities and desired outcomes.
- Integrate patient care plans according to diagnosis and age-specific needs.
- Identify and address patient safety needs, including surgical procedure knowledge, aseptic technique, positioning, surgical counts, and equipment use.
- Execute therapeutic and supportive interventions consistent with perioperative procedures.
- Provide education to patients and families to meet identified needs.
- Evaluate patient responses and progress toward established outcomes.
- Incorporate cultural considerations into care planning and delivery.
- Document patient care and related information accurately.
- Coordinate care with interdisciplinary team members.
- Facilitate patient transitions to the next level of care.
- Support team members through timely communication and serve as a role model to colleagues and students.
- Participate in ongoing learning and self-development relevant to the unit and job duties.
- May float to Progressive Care Unit (PCU) if comfortable and qualified.
Unit/Department Information
- 32-bed acute care unit with Med/Surg, PCU, and ICU levels housed in the same area.
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5 on Med/Surg, 1:4 on PCU.
- Equipment used includes Wound Vacs.
- Dress code: Pewter Grey or Light Turquoise.
- Orientation for travelers includes 4 hours general orientation, shadowing a floor nurse for an afternoon, and 1 shift orientation with floor staff before working independently.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Nebraska
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience in an Acute Care setting
- Experience with total joint replacements
- Experience with abdominal surgical procedures
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Shift Schedule
- Rotating shifts: 1845-0715 and 0645-1915.
