Registered Nurse (RN) - Step Down Unit
Location: Springfield, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel
Assignment Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Weekly Hours: 36 or 48 (must be specified on submission)
Weekend Hours: As required by facility
Call Requirements: None
Unit & Patient Care Information
- Unit: Cardiac Surgery Intermediate (Step Down/Progressive Care Unit)
- Number of Beds: 26
- Patient Ratios: 3:1 or 4:1
- Patient Types: Cardiac/thoracic surgery, vascular surgery, alcohol withdrawal, respiratory distress, insulin drips
- Equipment Used: Philips monitors, chest tubes, arterial lines, wound vacs, pacer boxes, pacing wires, drains, EKOS, Nicom, BiPAP, Airvo
- Electronic Medical Record (EMR): EPIC
- Float Requirements: Rotational float to critical care cluster or medical/surgical units
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Missouri
- Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with Epic electronic medical record system
Job Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation
- Utilize the nursing process for patients post-trauma, surgical interventions, and medical comorbidities
- Coordinate patient care with ancillary departments to optimize outcomes and comfort
- Maintain professional accountability and evaluate care effectiveness of other caregivers
- Uphold patient rights and confidentiality
- Perform duties consistent with nursing practice standards, Missouri Nurse Practice Act, and organizational mission and values
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- Stand and walk most of the shift
- Frequent bending, stooping, lifting, and turning patients with assistance
- Ability to push, pull, and grip up to 50 lbs; pinch up to 15 lbs
- Occasional kneeling, crouching, and crawling
- Exposure to blood and body fluids considered high risk
- May require flexible scheduling based on patient care needs

- Dress Code: Black scrubs or facility-logo attire only; other attire not acceptable
- Orientation: Night shift orientation occurs on day shift and requires full-week availability
- Flu Vaccination: Required November 1 through April 1; no declinations accepted
