Contract Length

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of recent MedSurg experience (within the past 6 months)
  • Telemetry experience required
  • Must be able to read cardiac strips and titrate down Amiodarone & Cardizem
  • Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required

Key Job Details

  • Unit: MedSurg A3 (formerly C5)
  • Bed count: 32 beds (Ortho, Surgical, Oncology)
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4 (days and nights)
  • Charge Nurse present (does not take patients) and Unit Supervisor on site
  • Nurse Aides: PCTs on days; 1 PCT or Task RN at night
  • Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period (days: Sat, Sun; nights: Fri, Sat), including one major and one minor holiday
  • Shift length: 12 hours (7 AM - 7 PM)
  • Floating: Must float to MedSurg Tele B2C and B2D units
  • Orientation: 2 shifts on the floor
  • Telemetry monitors: GE Monitors with central monitoring station tech support
  • Respiratory Therapist available 24/7
  • Pharmacy available 24/7 with ICU Pharmacist coverage on days
  • IV Team: No; House SWAT Nurse available for difficult IV sticks
  • Hospitalist or Intensivist not in-house; must call physician as needed

Patient Population & Common Diagnoses

  • 80% Surgical patients
  • 20% Oncology patients
  • Orthopedics: JCAHO-certified knee and hip program with 8-10 elective knee/hip surgeries per week
  • Other surgeries: Urological, Abdominal, Whipple, Women’s surgeries (excluding OB/GYN)

Additional Notes

  • Must pass a dysrhythmia exam within 48 hours of offer (max 2 attempts)
  • Pass/fail Sim Lab on day one of orientation
  • Failure of either exam results in a 6-month disqualification from this and related regions
  • Must not live within 50 miles of the facility
  • Must provide a current driver’s license upon application
  • Scrub color: Navy
  • Use of Spectralink phones (call light attached to phone)
  • May float to sister facility

This position is ideal for experienced MedSurg nurses with telemetry skills who are comfortable with a fast-paced surgical and oncology patient population and can meet the specific certification and testing requirements.
