Job Opportunity: Labor & Delivery RN
Location: Show Low, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (6 PM – 6 AM), 12-hour shifts
Schedule:
- 3 night shifts per week guaranteed
- Minimum 3 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule (flexible coverage)
- One call shift per 4-week schedule
Job Description
Seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery RN for a regional hospital in Arizona. This role involves caring for high-risk OB patients in a setting without in-house OB/Neonatologist coverage, requiring strong assessment skills and the ability to manage OB emergencies until providers arrive. The unit includes L&D, triage, and postpartum beds, with approximately 1-3 births per day and a typical nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2.
Floating to Emergency Department or Medical-Surgical units may be required if experienced.
Unit Details
- 7 Labor & Delivery beds
- 2 Triage beds
- 10 Postpartum beds
- Approximately 830 births per year
- Respiratory Therapist available 24/7
- Support staff includes OB scrub tech, Patient Care Technicians, Health Unit Secretary, and Health Unit Coordinator
- 24/7 pharmacy on site
Required Qualifications
- Active Arizona RN license or compact license
- Minimum 3 years of Labor & Delivery nursing experience (higher requirement takes precedence)
- Certifications:
- ACLS
- BLS
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring (AWHONN recommended)
- Proficient in fetal monitoring and managing fetal distress
- Experience with C-sections
- Ability to care for patients with pre-eclampsia and other high-risk OB conditions
- Strong clinical background in high-risk OB patients
- Ability to function in both Labor & Delivery and couplet care settings
Additional Information
- Orientation starts every Monday
- May float to other hospital units, typically Med-Surg, if needed
- Call coverage required once per 4-week schedule
- No in-house OB/Neonatologist; nurses must manage emergencies until provider arrival
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required
