Location: Grand Island, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night shifts, 12-hour shifts (0630-1900, 1830-0700)
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
Unit: Medical Surgical Cardiac ICU
Beds: 16
Nurse:Patient Ratio: Typically 1:2, occasionally 1:1 for higher acuity patients

Job Description

Seeking a Night ICU Registered Nurse with experience in Cardiac ICU. The unit is fast-paced and cares for a diverse patient population ranging from young adults to geriatrics with diagnoses including sepsis, STEMI, COVID, stroke, neurosurgery, renal failure, respiratory failure, COPD, cancer, and DKA.

The unit uses advanced equipment such as Gaymar Hypothermia, Arrow Balloon Pump, Camino Neuro monitoring, CRRT, Impella, EVDs, and Lumbar drains. Nurses are required to titrate drips including sedation, paralytics, pressors, antihypertensives, heparin, and insulin. RNs also read and interpret telemetry strips and troubleshoot respiratory equipment from nasal cannula to ventilators.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of unit experience including Cardiac ICU experience
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
• Valid driver’s license at time of submission
• Must pass a skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90% (open book)
• Ability to critically think through complex situations and willingness to learn
• Comfortable working with a culturally diverse patient population, including non-English speakers

Orientation & Training

• 2 shifts of unit/department-specific orientation
• Pass/fail exam on skills learned during orientation

Additional Information

• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday requirement: As needed
• Floating primarily to Progressive Care Unit (PCU), with potential to float to other hospital areas based on abilities
• Dress code: Navy blue scrubs for RNs
• Fingernail policy: Artificial nails prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply may result in contract termination
• The unit emphasizes bedside shift report and intentional hourly rounding
• Remote eICU monitoring system in use
• Charge nurse present on each shift and takes assignments
• Nurse aides/patient care techs available at a ratio of 1:10

• Candidates may not be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with certain affiliated healthcare systems within a 50-mile radius
• Rapid turnaround time required (7 days or less for contract start)
• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
