Registered Nurse – Surgical ICU
Location: Peoria, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Overview
- Department: Surgical ICU (SICU)
- Beds: 13
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: Typically 1:2; can vary between 1:1 and 1:3
- Patient Types: Post-surgical, open abdomens, multi-system trauma, endovascular cases
- Hospitalists/Intensivists: Intensivists in-house 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM; telemedicine intensivist support and attending on call after hours
- Respiratory Therapists: Available 24/7 with equipment including ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP
- Tele/Monitor Techs: Present; nurses read and interpret cardiac strips
Schedule & Work Requirements
- Shift: 12-hour day shifts (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
- Hours per week: 36
- Weekend Requirement: 6 weekend shifts every 6 weeks
- Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
- Call/Standby: None
- Floating: May be required to float to lower levels of care (Stepdown unit with 3 patients or general medical unit with 5-6 patients)
Required Certifications & Skills
- Licensure: Active Illinois RN license or proof of application in process
- Certifications: ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA)
- Experience: ICU experience required, including Level I trauma
- Skills: Ability to titrate drips (pressors, sedation, paralytics, insulin)
Orientation & Training
- Orientation: Unit-specific orientation totaling 32 hours
- 8 hours learning EPIC system
- 8 hours with educator
- 4 hours shadowing
- 12 hours preceptorship on unit
Additional Information
- Nurse aids/patient care techs available at a ratio of 1:10
- Charge nurse present and may take assignment as staffing allows
- House supervisor available 24/7
- Dress code: No specific scrub colors required
- Drug-Free Campus: Negative drug screen required for all panels
- Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius of the facility

- Active Illinois RN license or confirmation of application process
- Understanding and compliance with drug-free policy
