Registered Nurse (RN) – MedSurg/Telemetry Neuro Unit
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (12-hour shifts, 1830-0700)
Hours per Week: 36
Unit Overview
- Department: Medical-Surgical Neurology, 4th Floor North
- Beds: 25
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5-6
- Patient Types: MedSurg/Telemetry patients including strokes, stable neurological deficits, post-neurosurgery, joint replacements, fractures, colon resections, COPD exacerbations, prostatectomy, cellulitis, sepsis, orthopedic trauma, GI bleeds, pneumonia, failure to thrive
- Common Drips RN Must Titrate: Heparin, lidocaine, ketamine
- Common Drips: PCA pumps
- Charge Nurse: Present on each shift and takes patient assignments
- Support Staff: Nurse aides/patient care techs (ratio 1:10-20), Telemetry/Monitor Techs interpret strips; RNs expected to have telemetry awareness
- Equipment: Mechanical lifts available in every other room
- Orientation: 2 days of unit-specific orientation
- Floating: Required to float to other MedSurg areas or units with MedSurg patients waiting for beds
- Language Diversity: Patient population includes Spanish, Karen, Burmese speakers
Scheduling & Requirements
- Weekend: At least every other weekend; additional weekends may be required based on census
- Holidays: 2-3 holidays required between Thanksgiving and New Year’s
- Scheduling: Travelers are scheduled; limited block scheduling may be approved
- Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs for RNs
- Key Focus: Hourly rounding, responsiveness, managing multiple discharges/admissions daily, teamwork, good attendance, compassion
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Nebraska
- Minimum of 1 year of Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Valid driver’s license
Additional Requirements & Policies
- Must pass a pass/fail exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90% (open book, based on skills learned)
- Radius Rule: Candidates must live within 50 miles and may not be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with the employer system
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply will result in contract termination
- Prior travel experience preferred but not required
- No license or background issues allowed

This is a 13-week night shift RN position on a MedSurg/Telemetry Neuro unit caring for a diverse patient population with neurological and general medical-surgical needs. The role requires strong clinical skills, ability to manage multiple admissions and discharges, and teamwork. Candidates must hold current RN licensure, BLS, and NIHSS certifications, and comply with strict policies including a 50-mile radius rule and fingernail restrictions. Prior travel experience is preferred but not mandatory.
