Job Opportunity: Director of Nursing (DON) / RN Unit Supervisor

Location: Janesville, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Overview

Seeking a Director of Nursing for a Skilled Nursing and Long Term Care Facility. The DON will have shift accountability and be responsible for coordinating and facilitating nursing care activities to improve continuity of care across the continuum. This role involves leadership, policy development, staff education, and quality maintenance to meet Federal and State regulatory requirements.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and vision by developing and maintaining departmental objectives, nursing standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement new nursing techniques and objectives.
  • Coordinate nursing services with other resident services to ensure continuity of care.
  • Oversee assessment, planning, monitoring, implementation, and evaluation in case management.
  • Organize resident care programs including interdisciplinary teams and restorative care programs.
  • Foster an environment supporting resident rights and choices regarding their care.
  • Develop, implement, monitor, and enforce department policies.
  • Participate in budget input and maintain monthly expense records.
  • Guide and enforce proper infection control practices.
  • Provide shift supervision through hiring, training, evaluation, assignment, and delegation of duties within budget and census guidelines.
  • Act as a patient advocate and resource to patients, families, and interdisciplinary staff.
  • Complete, evaluate, and report monthly quality data (falls, skin, psychotropic medications, chart compliance).

Work Schedule

  • 80 hours per 2 weeks
  • Variable day shift hours with 24/7 accountability

Qualifications

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program
  • BSN required upon hire

Experience

  • 2 to 4 years in a supervisory position in long term care nursing or demonstrated leadership/management experience in a long term care facility
  • Working knowledge of reimbursement systems and State and Federal regulations within Long Term Care and The Joint Commission (TJC)

Licensure & Certification

  • Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of practice
  • Approved CPR certification required within 90 days
  • Other certifications per unit requirements (e.g., ACLS, PALS, PEARS, NRP)
