Job Summary
Provide safe, competent, and quality nursing care to a designated group of patients using nursing theory, research, and evidence-based practice. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and evaluate patient care plans, prioritize patient needs, and educate patients and caregivers.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Deliver patient care based on Relationship Centered Care and nursing process.
- Assess and evaluate patient care needs using critical thinking.
- Integrate assessment and intervention skills in nursing care delivery.
- Collaborate with healthcare team on care plans.
- Prioritize patient care including teaching, rounding, coaching, and discharge planning.
- Educate patients and caregivers on care plans, health promotion, and disease prevention.
- Communicate professionally with patients, families, and care teams.
- Manage assignments within Modified Primary Nursing model.
Patient Experience
- Role model Relationship Centered Care practices (e.g., Admission Welcome, Bedside Shift Report, Purposeful Hourly Rounding).
- Respect patient values, preferences, cultural diversity, and expressed needs.
- Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
- Use evidence-based practices to improve patient care perceptions.
- Address patient/family concerns and escalate as needed.
- Demonstrate empathy, respect, and active listening.
Quality and Safety
- Practice safe, patient-centered care and identify improvement opportunities.
- Demonstrate clinical skills essential to quality and safety.
- Participate in quality improvement projects and nursing research.
- Follow institutional protocols to avoid high-risk behaviors.
- Document nursing practice accurately to support quality initiatives.
Operations
- Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
- Coordinate supply and staffing needs with management.
- Escalate resource deficits appropriately.
- Use cost-effective approaches to patient care resources.
- Facilitate patient throughput during shifts.
Professional Development
- Support clinical colleagues, patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Advance clinical competence from novice to expert.
- Maintain a professional image and communicate with empathy and respect.
- Apply ethical principles in decision-making.
- Engage in lifelong learning, scholarship, and innovation.
- Participate in specialty councils, committees, and unit initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Minimum 2 years of Stepdown nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- One year or more of total travel nursing experience
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Experience in cardiology, telemetry, and medical-surgical nursing
- Experience with ventilators, intravenous drips, and drains
Contract Length
- Approximately 13 weeks (89 days ≈ 13 weeks)
This position is ideal for experienced RNs with cardiology or telemetry background seeking a contract role in a stepdown unit. Prior travel experience is required if applying for a travel contract.
