Surgical Oncology Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse

Overview

• Travel assignment in Newburgh, Indiana
• 13-week contract
• Day shift: 12 hours, 6:30 AM - 7:00 PM
• Primary location: Gateway
• 36 guaranteed hours per week; may accept 48-hour contracts upon request

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Indiana
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Med Surg (2 years of experience)
• Med Surg experience within the last year
• One completed travel assignment
• BLS issued by American Heart Association
• NIHSS
• Surgical Oncology experience
• Experience with Epic
• PIV insertion
• Chest tube and indwelling drain management
• CBI (continuous bladder irrigation)
• Stable drips management (heparin, lasix, protonix)
• Epidural management
• PEG and NG tube management
• Ostomy care
• Post-Whipple postoperative care (24-28 hour postop)
• Neutropenic precautions

Unit Details

• 32-bed complex Med/Surg and oncology unit with GI, GU, and General crossover
• Patient ratios: Days 1:4-5; Nights 1:5-7
• First to float with skillset
• May float to Deaconess Midtown campus and potentially to Deaconess Henderson
• Mid-shift float within the same campus is possible; cross-campus mid-shift float is unlikely but possible
• 2-hour notice for cross-campus float

Schedule and Expectations

• Three weekends out of every six-week schedule
• Every other holiday
• No call requirement
• May require precepting of students and new hires
• 3 call-ins can result in termination

Clinical Skills / Experience

• PIV insertion
• Chest tube and indwelling drain management
• CBI
• Stable drips: heparin, lasix, protonix
• Epidural management
• PEGs and NGs
• Ostomy care
• Post-Whipple care
• Neutropenic precautions

Additional Notes

• No local candidates within 40 miles
• Teaching hospital
• Navy blue scrubs required; no competing health systems or agency logos
• COVID-19 vaccine not required
