Registered Nurse (Med Surg Neuro) - Travel Position

Location: Cape Girardeau, Missouri
Unit: Neurosciences (Neuro Floor)

Position Details

• Employment Type: Travel
• Contract Length: 13 weeks (with option to extend up to 26 weeks)
• Shift: Nights, 7 PM – 7 AM
• Weekly Hours: 36 guaranteed (option for 48 hours per week upon request)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other full weekend (Saturday and Sunday) expected unless otherwise approved
• Holiday Requirement: Must work at least one major summer or winter holiday (e.g., Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year’s Day)
• Number of Openings: 2

Unit Information

• Number of Beds: 17
• Patient Ratio: 1:6
• Patient Population: Medical and Surgical Neuro patients (e.g., Parkinson’s, Stroke, Lumbar cases)
• Trauma: No trauma patients on this unit
• Equipment: Standard neuro equipment including IV pumps
• EMR System: EPIC

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
• Minimum 1 year of Med Surg nursing experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Experience in charge nurse roles or demonstrated ability to perform charge duties
• Valid driver’s license

Job Responsibilities

• Deliver nursing care by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care plans
• Provide physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients and families
• Monitor, record, and report patient symptoms and changes in condition
• Administer medications, wound care, IV therapy (including central line care), and other personalized interventions
• Prepare patients for exams and assist with procedures
• Maintain safe patient care environment by adhering to infection control, medication administration, and safety protocols
• Document patient care accurately in medical records
• Collaborate and communicate effectively with healthcare team members
• Act as patient advocate and promote a culture of safety
• Supervise and delegate duties to unlicensed assistive personnel and ancillary staff
• Attend Neuroscience Nursing course as assigned

Work Environment & Culture

• Team-oriented with emphasis on good communication and patient-centered care
• Dress code requires black scrubs
• Float requirements include coverage to Med Surg and Progressive Care units

Additional Notes

• Up to 5 days off per 13-week contract can be automatically approved; additional time off requires prior approval and may need to be made up
• Block shift requests are considered but not guaranteed
