Registered Nurse (CVOR)

Job Overview

Seeking an experienced Operating Room (OR) Nurse with Cardiovascular OR (CVOR) specialty for a travel contract. The role involves supporting a high-volume OR with a strong open heart surgery program and a variety of general surgery cases.

Key Responsibilities

• Work primarily in the CVOR unit with the ability to float to the general OR if needed.
• Manage 8 OR rooms plus 2 heart rooms daily (9-10 rooms total).
• Handle approximately 23-25 cases per day including general surgery, vascular, orthopedic, endovascular, and urology cases.
• Participate in call rotation: minimum 2 call shifts per 4-week schedule, including weeknights and every 2nd/3rd weekend (expected to move to every 3rd/4th weekend when fully staffed).
• Work 8- and 12-hour shifts, with greater need for evening shifts (starting around 10:30 AM or 2:30 PM through 11:00 PM).
• Collaborate with OR techs and charge nurses; scrub tech support available.
• No floating outside of OR; CVOR RNs may float to main OR as needed.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of CVOR nursing experience, including cardiovascular and general OR cases.
• Active California RN license.
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; CNOR certification preferred.
• Experience with Cerner EMR system.
• Completion of all required training modules prior to assignment start.
• No first-time travelers accepted.

Additional Information

• Call is required 2 shifts per week and every 4th weekend.
• Unit has a 1:1 nurse-to-patient ratio.
• Scrub color and supplies are provided.
• Telemetry monitoring equipment used: Phillips.
• Respiratory therapy and pharmacy services available 24/7.
• Strong preference for candidates with experience in open heart surgery, major vascular cases, and TAVR procedures.

Summary

This is a fast-paced CVOR RN travel assignment requiring solid cardiovascular OR experience, flexibility with shifts and call, and the ability to work in both CVOR and general OR settings. Candidates must be fully certified, licensed in California, and prepared to complete all pre-arrival training modules.
