Registered Nurse – Labor and Delivery
Location: Twin Falls, Idaho
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (7pm–7am)
Hours: 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week
Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend (EOW); days on Sat & Sun, nights on Fri & Sat as able
Holiday Requirements: May be included in holiday rotation
Scheduling: Schedule made 6 weeks in advance; block scheduling considered but not guaranteed; no more than 5 shifts in a row per policy
Floating: Primary units are Labor & Delivery (L&D) and Postpartum/Mother-Baby (PP/MB); may float hospital-wide for sitter shifts, travelers typically first to float
Unit Overview
- 11 Labor & Delivery rooms that double as triage rooms
- 2 C-Section OR suites and 2 PACU recovery bays on the floor
- Typically 2 designated triage rooms seeing 4-5 triage patients per day (non-admitted)
- 17 Postpartum beds
- Average 5-6 deliveries per day, 150-180 deliveries per month
- Level 3 NICU supports babies 30+ weeks gestation; babies under 30 weeks stabilized and transferred out
- Follow AWHONN staffing guidelines:
- 1:1 for Intrapartum
- 1:1–3 for Antepartum
- 1:3–4 for Postpartum/Mother-Baby
Required Certifications
- Registered Nurse license (RN)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- AWHONN Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring certification (or NCC Certified in Fetal Monitoring)
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience
- Some postpartum experience required
- Must be comfortable working in both L&D and Postpartum units
- Ability to care for high-risk patients
- Ability to circulate in C-sections
- Travelers with only Critical Access Hospital experience will NOT be accepted
- First-time travelers are accepted
- Preference for candidates with experience in similar-sized L&D and PP/MB departments
- Epic electronic medical record experience preferred (candidates should specify last use)
Clinical Skills & Responsibilities
- RNs are required to titrate drips including Pitocin, Magnesium, and Insulin (preference for insulin drip experience, but training available)
- RNs should be able to identify basic, rhythm changes, and life-threatening rhythms on telemetry strips (Tele Techs are present; RNs not required to interpret strips fully)
- Charge nurse does not typically take patient assignments unless necessary; resource nurse assists with triage, deliveries, and staff support
- CNAs assist in Postpartum with vitals, baths, ADLs, blood glucose, and other tasks
- Certified Surgical Technologists (CST) available 24/7 on unit
- OB physicians onsite during weekdays with on-call coverage at night; Neonatologists onsite during day with APP coverage at night
- CRNA anesthesia coverage 24/7 for OB cases
- Respiratory Therapists available 24/7 for respiratory treatments and equipment management
Orientation & Onboarding
- 3 days of unit-specific orientation with a preceptor in both Labor & Delivery and Postpartum/Mother-Baby units
Work Environment & Additional Notes
- Nurses will float freely between L&D and Postpartum depending on staffing and census
- Strong collaborative relationships between providers and nursing staff
- Located in Southern Idaho, ideal for those who enjoy outdoor activities and nature
- Dress code: Navy blue scrubs for RNs; maroon scrubs for CNAs
