Registered Nurse (RN) – Women's Services (LDRP)
Location: Nampa, Idaho
Contract Length: 13 weeks (travel assignment)
Shift: Nights (7pm–7am)
Hours: 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week
Job Overview
- Provide nursing care in Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum (LDRP) unit.
- Care for patients in a 14-bed LDRP unit with 2 OR suites for C-sections and 4 triage beds.
- Attend deliveries, circulate in C-sections, provide postpartum couplet care, and staff triage.
- Follow AWHONN staffing standards: 1:1 labor ratio (unless pairing cervical ripening patients), postpartum 1:3 couplets, triage 1:3.
- Serve a diverse patient population including antepartum, 32+ week gestation, hypertensive patients on magnesium, TOLACs, gestational diabetes, and patients referred from home birth midwives.
- No care for placenta previa or placenta accreta patients.
- Collaborate with 24/7 OB hospitalist, neonatal NP, anesthesia, and respiratory therapy support.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience in Labor & Delivery (L&D), Postpartum, and OR Circulation/Triage.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS), and STABLE certifications required.
- Experience attending deliveries and providing at least 1 hour of newborn care.
- Ability to manage magnesium drips and other titratable drips (Pitocin, magnesium, occasional insulin).
- Must be able to titrate drips.
- Mother-baby experience preferred (at least 1 year).
- Charge nurse experience preferred but not required.
- First-time travelers are accepted.
- Prior travel experience is not required.
Orientation & Training
- 4 shifts of unit-specific orientation covering C-section, labor, and postpartum care.
- Compliance and electronic health record (EPIC Curio) assignments must be completed before starting.
Work Environment & Scheduling
- No minimum weekend requirement; weekends worked based on unit needs and requests.
- No call or standby requirement.
- Floating required to other regional sites within primary skill set (L&D, Postpartum, Antepartum) or as a sitter.
- Schedule includes resource and charge nurse shifts (6:45am–6:45pm and 6:45pm–6:45am).
- Travelers fill schedule gaps; preference considered but block scheduling is not guaranteed.
- No more than 5 consecutive shifts allowed.
- Hospital-issued scrubs required; must change in and out at start/end of shift.
- No acrylic, gel, or fingernail lacquer allowed due to embedded NICU proximity.
- Travel duos require two vehicles due to floating between sites.
Unit Support & Resources
- 1 Certified Surgical Tech (CST) and 1 Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) per shift (CNA coverage may vary).
- Resource nurse assists with breaks, attends deliveries, stabilizes newborns, performs physical assessments, and co-signs medications.
- No telemetry/monitor techs on unit; RNs rarely need to read strips.
- Electronic fetal monitoring system: Centricity.
- Respiratory therapy available for troubleshooting vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow devices.
Patient Volume & Care
- Approximately 90 births per month (1,200 per year).
- Care includes triage, labor, delivery, postpartum, and newborn stabilization.
- Manage common diagnoses such as hypertension requiring magnesium, gestational diabetes, and trial of labor after cesarean (TOLAC).

- Facility enforces a 50-mile radius rule for travel nurses.
- NICU is embedded within 7 of the LDRP rooms, influencing unit policies and care environment.
