Contract Length

Department & Facility Details
- Department: Emergency Room
- Beds/Trauma Bays: 2 Trauma bays, 2 Clinic rooms
- No Fast Track or separate triage area
- No separate holding or psych/seclusion rooms in ER
- No 24/7 in-house security in ER
- Average patients treated per day: 12
Staffing & Ratios
- Nurse to patient ratio: 1:1 to 1:3 (usually one patient at a time, rotating assignments)
- Staff includes 3 licensed personnel per shift: 2 RNs + 1 LPN or RN
- Charge Nurse/House Supervisor is a shared role and may take patient assignments
- Support staff: 2 ER techs (one admits patients and assists unit, other floats to Med-Surg), paramedics on all shifts
Certifications & Experience
- Required: BLS
- Preferred: ACLS, PALS, TNCC
- Experience: Candidates with experience in similar hospital settings preferred; first-time travelers are welcome
Patient Care & Common Diagnoses
- 60-75% urgent care cases; no local urgent care facility nearby
- Common ER cases: strokes, myocardial infarction (MI), trauma from motor vehicle collisions (MVCs)
- No cath lab on site; stabilize and transfer critical patients
- On-call trauma team rarely activated
Procedures & Equipment
- Common drips: insulin gtt, pain management, TPA
- ED Physician/Mid-Levels: Always have a Midlevel provider or PA present
- Respiratory Therapy (RT): Available 6am-6pm Monday-Friday; paramedics manage vents and BiPAP during off hours
- RT equipment managed by paramedics after MD orders; RNs handle drips and other care
- Monitoring: Mindray monitors; RNs monitor their own telemetry; central RN station located in middle of ER and Med-Surg units
- Imaging: X-Ray and CT available nearby; mostly in-house with some on-call hours
- Lab draws: Lab available 24/7; RNs can draw labs off IV starts
Scheduling & Shifts
- Shift: 7am-7pm
- Scheduling managed by manager with consideration for preferences and block scheduling
- Weekend requirement: Every other or every third weekend, varies by contract
- Holiday coverage: Filling in holiday gaps
- No call or standby requirement due to low census
- Floating: Nurses float between ER and Med-Surg during shifts; RN station centrally located to support both units
Orientation & Dress Code
- Orientation: 1 full day (8:00am-4:30pm) covering business office, IT, and resources; plus two 12-hour shifts (one ER, one Med-Surg) before working independently
- Scrub color/dress code: Scrubs not provided; any color allowed, no other hospital logos or prints permitted
