Position Details

• Specialty: Medical-Surgical/Ortho
• Unit: Med/Surg Ortho
• Number of Beds: 32
• Shift: 3 shifts, 12 hours each (06:30 - 19:00)
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Weekend Requirement: Every 3rd weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Rotating holidays
• Call/Standby: No call or standby requirement
• Floating: Rare, only to other medical/surgical units if needed
• Dress Code: Navy scrubs

Patient Population & Care

• Common Diagnoses: Medical/Surgical patients with a specialty in post-op cancer interventions (e.g., prostatectomy, mastectomy)
• Nurse to Patient Ratio: 1:5
• Nurse Aids: Sometimes available depending on sitter needs (ratio 1:15)
• Telemetry: Yes, central monitoring with RNs responsible for noticing changes
• RT Equipment: Not specified

Required Certifications & Skills

• Certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS
• Experience/Skills: Good communication, accurate documentation, timeliness, patient-centered care
• RN Responsibilities: Required to titrate drips (heparin, lidocaine, TPN gtt)
• Charge Nurse/House Supervisor: Yes, positions available

Orientation & Evaluation

• Unit/Department specific orientation provided
• Pass/Fail exam during orientation (open book, 90% required to pass)

Policies & Requirements

• Radius rule: Candidates must live within 50 miles and cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI and Dignity)
• Fingernail policy: Artificial nails prohibited in all patient care departments; refusal to comply results in contract termination
• Driver’s license required at submission to verify distance compliance

This position is ideal for RNs experienced in medical-surgical nursing with strong clinical skills and the ability to titrate drips, who are comfortable working 12-hour shifts and meeting weekend and holiday requirements.
