Job Opportunity: Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)

Location: Ashland, Wisconsin
Specialty: MT/MLT (Medical Technologist / Medical Laboratory Technician)
Contract Length: 16 weeks

Job Description

Full-time position for an ASCP or AMT registered or registry-eligible Medical Technologist or MLT in a multi-specialty community hospital laboratory within a small Critical Access Hospital.

Required Qualifications

• Certification: ASCP or AMT certification required
• BLS Certification required
• Minimum 3 years of experience in the specialty (Medical Laboratory Technology)
• Generalist skills required: must be able to work in Chemistry, Hematology (including differentials), Urinalysis microscopics, and perform phlebotomy
• Critical thinking and troubleshooting skills
• Self-motivated and a team player
• Travel experience highly preferred but not mandatory

Job Responsibilities

• Perform testing in multiple lab areas: Hematology, Chemistry, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Molecular, some Microbiology (gram stains/set ups)
• Phlebotomy duties required (minimal)
• Blood bank duties for assignments longer than 6 months
• Use of LIS system: EPIC
• Use of specific equipment:

  • Chemistry: Abbott Architect, ISTAT, Avox, Osmometer
  • Hematology: Beckman DXH 600 and 690T
  • Coagulation: Stago CMAX and Stago Start
  • Urinalysis: Clinitek Advantus and Beckman Coulter DxU Iris 840m
  • Molecular: Cepheid, BacT Alert

Work Schedule & Environment

• Shifts: Mostly 8 or 10 hour shifts (examples: 6:00 AM–2:30 PM, 6:30 AM–5:00 PM, 8:00 AM–6:30 PM, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM)
• Weekend Requirement: Rotating Saturdays and Sundays; some travelers work every weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Flexibility expected to fill in as needed
• No call or standby call required
• Dress code: Any scrub color; lab coats provided
• Orientation: Department-specific orientation with lab director and 2 weeks training with techs
