Job Opportunity: L&D Nurse (RN) - Arizona, Chandler
Position Overview
Seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery (L&D) Nurse for a travel assignment in Arizona. The role involves caring for laboring and preterm pregnant patients in a Level II EQ unit (gestations 28 weeks and greater) and a Level 1 Trauma Center. The nurse will be responsible for circulating and recovering C-sections confidently.
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Required Qualifications
- Active Arizona RN license or compact license
- Minimum 2 years of L&D nursing experience
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- Experience with C-sections required
- Computer charting experience required, preferably with Cerner EMR
- Must pass a dysrhythmia exam (80% passing score, max 2 attempts) prior to starting
- Pass/fail Simulation lab on day 1 of orientation
- COVID vaccine required or approved declination form with hospital approval
Work Environment & Unit Details
- Unit: Labor and Delivery
- Beds: 18 LDRP’s, 14 OB triage, 8 Antepartum
- Average deliveries: 8-10 per day
- Operating Rooms: 2 fully equipped OR suites for C-sections
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: Mostly 2:1 depending on acuity; Antepartum 4:1; C-sections 1:1
- EMR system: Cerner
- EFM system: Fetal Link
- No nurse aides on unit
- OB Hospitalist in-house 24/7
- Respiratory Therapy available 24/7 (vents, CPAP, BiPAP)
- Anesthesia available 24/7
- IV team available if needed
- Pharmacy available 24/7
Schedule & Orientation
- Shift: Nights (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
- Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts per schedule
- Call/standby: Voluntary, not required
- Holidays: Coverage appreciated but not mandatory
- Orientation: 1 week floor-specific orientation
- Floating: May float to Mother-Baby/Postpartum units or sister facility as needed
Clinical Responsibilities
- Titrate drips such as Pitocin and Magnesium Sulfate per protocol
- Confidently circulate and recover C-sections
- Care for laboring or preterm pregnant patients (28 weeks gestation and above)
Additional Notes
- Scrub color: Blue (scrubbing not necessary)
- Unit staffing aims to meet AWHONN guidelines and ratios; assignments are safe
- Travelers must be comfortable with dysrhythmia content due to exam requirement

Unit is very traveler friendly, ratio of 4 to 1, fair assignments, good hospital culture. I am only working dayshift so this doesn’t apply to me, but Night Shift does not have clinical technicians just a heads up.
Cons
The Phoenix Arizona area gets really hot in the summer other than that, it’s a great place to live.
